Dean S. Douglas Esq. is the founding and managing partner of Decanus Law, PLLC. What is a “Decanus” you might ask? Simply put, Decanus is Latin for Dean, but has various meanings historically in the context of leadership, military, and religion. Dean received his J.D. from The Thomas M. Cooley Law School and graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a B.A. in Management, with a concentration in Music Business.
Following his numerous internships, positions at record production and television companies, graduation from college, working on GRAMMY® award-winning and nominated projects, Dean pursued a law degree. He increased his acumen by taking numerous courses in intellectual property, business, entertainment law, and externing at one of the largest music publishers in the world. Following graduation from law school, Dean began his legal career in civil litigation covering a wide array of matters including breach of contract, trademark infringement, and products liability.
While the customary positions in law helped form his interests and skills sets, he never ceased to enjoy providing hands-on direction to those around him hoping to build their own business and scale-up their creative ideas. Dean realized he needed to create a place where he could devote his energies to servicing these creatives and entrepreneurs. Thereafter, he transitioned and launched Decanus Law, a virtual boutique law firm based in Miami, FL, dedicated to assisting creatives and entrepreneurs with their business law and intellectual property law needs both locally and nationally.
Dean utilizes his prior experience to assist both aspiring and seasoned entrepreneurs from falling into legal pitfalls by ensuring that their businesses are built on a proper legal foundation. He firmly believes in providing dependable, relatable, and quality legal services to his clients along with moral support and encouragement to assist them in their entrepreneurship journey.
Dean is a native of Miami, FL. He is a member of the Miami-Dade Bar, Broward Bar, the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Florida, and the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Forum on Entertainment & Sports Industries. Dean is admitted to practice law in Florida.
